المتنبي: شاعر ملأ الدنيا وشغل الناس

وُلد في الكوفة سنة 303هـ (915م)، وما زال شعره في الحكمة والفخر من أكثر الشعر العربي تداولًا.

Al-Mutanabbi, the poet who filled the world. Born in Kufa in 915 CE, his poetry of wisdom and pride is still among the most quoted in Arabic.

نجيب محفوظ ونوبل 1988

أول أديب عربي ينال جائزة نوبل للآداب، ومن أشهر أعماله «الثلاثية».

Naguib Mahfouz and the 1988 Nobel. The first Arab writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature; among his best-known works is the Cairo Trilogy.

لأن صوت الضاد عُدّ خاصًا بها ونادرًا في غيرها من اللغات.

Why Arabic is "the language of the ḍād". Because the ḍād sound was seen as distinctive to Arabic and rare in other languages.

الخليل بن أحمد الفراهيدي

واضع علم العروض الذي يضبط أوزان الشعر العربي، وصاحب «كتاب العين» أول معجم عربي.

Al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi. The founder of Arabic prosody, which sets the meters of poetry, and author of Kitab al-Ayn, the first Arabic dictionary.

جبران خليل جبران و«النبي»

أديب لبناني من أدباء المهجر، كتب «النبي» بالإنجليزية عام 1923، ويُعد من أكثر الكتب ترجمة في العالم.

Kahlil Gibran and The Prophet. A Lebanese writer of the diaspora. He wrote The Prophet in English in 1923; it is one of the most translated books.

يُحتفى به في 18 ديسمبر، ذكرى اعتماد العربية لغةً رسمية في الأمم المتحدة عام 1973.
